About

The vision of this program is to provide an avenue for dancers to gain awareness of their body and personal potential. We want to provide dancers with a focused environment in which they can gain a new way to approach dance at various points of their professional career. As an alternative to other pre-professional dance training, the Contemporary Training Program  is an inclusive program that gives any dancer the opportunity to have a successful career through focusing on the collaboration of technique and education. By providing sophisticated information and making it accessible to every student, we hope to provide essential tools for every aspiring professional dancer. The program focuses on three main components of expanding each dancer’s awareness:

  1. Technique

  2.     ◆ We believe that technique is a habit formed through concentrated practice and the constant pursuit to gain awareness.  Teaching dancers to apply a basic knowledge of anatomy, the program  creates a better understanding of technique, not only as a style of dance but as a foundation from which to grow.

  3. Mindset

  4.     ◆ We believe that training is a state of mind. Our goal is to help dancers realize their potential and how to push themselves toward personal goals while exceeding any previous self inflicted limitations. We strive to foster creativity and nurture a professional mindset in every class within the program.

  5. Artistry

  6. ◆  We teach students to expand their artistry by melding the technical aspect of dancing with their individuality. Throughout the program, students will be encouraged to pursue their personal goals in a professional atmosphere. By the close of the process, we hope dancers will have developed a distinct voice and a unique movement quality that makes them a valuable asset in the professional dance world.

“My goal is to change the way that people view the concept of training in dance. Most of us grow up with a passion for dance and we constantly look for ways to express that passion. When I realized that there was a better more efficient and healthier way to to get my body to do the things I thought were impossible dreams I wanted to immediately share that information with every dancer that crossed my path. My dedication now is to achieving my highest level of artistry through a comprehensive knowledge of the body and how amazing it is. It is my goal to pass that knowledge along to the next generation of impassioned individuals. “

The Contemporary Training Program
                                             & :pushing progress ii
September 2011 - May 2012
:pushing progress is very excited to announce the inceptio
n of :pushing progress ii. Following in the footsteps of the many great training grounds for dancers looking to have a professional career performing in a company, we have designed :pushing progress ii as a feed in to the main company. :pushing progress ii will be chosen by an exclusive audition for graduates of the :pushing progress contemporary training program and serve as conduit for growth in artistry and application of the lessons learned while training with
Chris Hale and Calen J. Kurka co. directors of :pushing progress. The main focus will be on transferring the discipline in the anatomical and technical information to the rehearsal setting and help bridge the gap between training as a dancer and performing as a professional marrying the two roles seamlessly so that the performer never stops wanting to learn and the student continues to aspire to a higher level of artistry!  :pushing :progress ii will act as a second year of study leading out of the Contemporary Training Program where the new students get the chance to train along with the previous years graduates and :pushing progress ii will have the opportunity to rehearse with and understudy  the :pushing progress first company, bolstering their education and witnessing first hand what it takes to  work in a professional company environment. For more information on :pushing progress and their range of educational programming go to www.pushingprogress.com.

ANNOUNCING - :pushing progress ii
“I am so thankful to be a part of the :pp CTP. It has changed, and continues to change, my life and my dancing. I have learned more in the past 3 months than I did in years growing up training. Not only am I being given an immense amount of knowledge and tools to excel as a dancer, I am also given a secure and supportive place to apply what I am learning. The passion and energy that Chris and Calen possess is truly life changing and inspiring in so many ways. What has made the biggest impact on me personally is the program’s emphasis on using the mind as a training tool. My change in thought process, mindset, and intention are what have
allowed my training to reach a level that I didn’t even know existed. On top of enhancing my training, my shift in mentality is changing all aspects of my life. Challenge your mind and body and don’t wait to be extraordinary.”
