DANCE ATTIRE
We encourage wearing form fitting clothing that shows both your body and lines. Dancers may take most classes in socks or bare foot as the floors are marley. Ballet should be taken in respectful ballet attire: Leotards and tights. No bras to be worn under Leotards. Students may wear a second skin if necessary. Each student must have ballet shoes. NO Socks or Jazz shoes. Hair must be pulled back and in a bun. If hair is too short please keep cleanly off of face.
PARENTS:
We ask that parents not hang about the studio during the days of the intensive, but please feel free to come say hi in the morning's while dropping them off, or wait in the lobby sitting area upon picking them up at the end of the day.
FOOD
It is the individual responsibility of each student for his or her own food for the day. We recommend packing food and snacks as lunch is only 45 minutes as it would facilitate keeping dancers together during breaks. A faculty member/assistant can escort dancers in groups down to the local market should students need to venture out and pick up food. As we know many students are from the area, if you are fine with your child getting food for themselves during their break please just let us know. There are plenty of places to do so within 5 minutes walking from the studio. Here's a link to a map with restaurants and food within the studio vicinity. Not mentioned is in this list is Ashley Market, a small Wholefood's like grocery store/deli where you can also get hot and cold food bar. The local Starbucks is under the train station, and there's a Dunkin' Donuts across the street. Once again everything is in a 3 or 4 block walking distance from the studio.
South orange/ Train Station
South Orange is a very close 30 - 35 minute train ride to Mid-Town New York and is an express strop. Trains run 2-3 times an hour in the am, and once an hour as we get into the afternoon. This Summer the New Jersey Transit is doing track work and runs on a different schedule. Should you be interested in taking the train into the city throughout your time with us you will find all transit info at NJ Transit, looking for the schedule from South Orange NJ - NY Penn Station (Or Train to Hoboken to catch the Path should it be during the time they are doing track work). The South Orange train station is a 4 minute walk from the studio, and the train arriving in at NY Penn Station gets in on 34th street.
Accomodations
Many of you asked about accommodations, and we thank you for your patience as we have been trying to find somewhere near by that would do a block rate, but have had no luck. There is nothing really in the township of South Orange, with most hotels being 15 - 25 mins away. This is normal for New Jersey, with the running joke being that EVERYTHING is ONLY 20 mins away. We recommend doing a google search for hotels in the area with surrounding areas being:
West Orange
Short Hills
Summit
Secaucus
We know of some students having booked hotels in Secaucus, which has plenty of food choices, and is also close to the Lincoln Tunnel and NYC.
In-Studio Showcase
We'd like to invite parents, family and friends to an informal studio observation to be held Friday August 11th between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. This will take place at Class Act Performing Arts Studio. Please let us know if you are interested in joining us. We hope to see you there.*
*As seating is limited please click the below button to fill out a form letting us know how many of you we can expect at the showing.
