In class, students will learn to identify bones and muscle groups which are crucial to the intelligent dancer.

After becoming familiar with the patterns of the bones and muscle, the class performs  movement protocols which are geared toward warming- up and strengthening important muscle groups.

Melissa's intention is to teach advanced students how to get physically "organized" in order to become a stronger, connected and more efficient dancer. The information will be integrated and "layered" into contemporary and classical movement techniques. The dancer will learn the language of movement so that he/she can be free to express his/herself as well as interpret and break down any movement style.

Melissa Wolfe Rosebro grew up in Maryland and has been dancing all her life. She came to New York in 1997 to dance professionally, and after experiencing first hand the benefits of Pilates, knew she wanted to deepen her understanding and spread the knowledge. Concurrent with her ongoing local and international dance and choreography career, she apprenticed with Julie Sorrentino at Broadway Pilates for one year and then taught there for three years before receiving full certification from the Physical Mind Institute in 2001. After teaching over the next couple years for various Manhattan Pilates studios and studying with Irene Dowd, Ron Fletcher, Michelle Larson, and Deborah Lessen, Melissa completed Deborah Lessen’s advanced teacher program at the Greene Street Studio in 2004. Melissa has taught ages ranging from 10 to 98 and has focused training in scoliosis and joint replacement protocol as well as dance-related issues and injury. She continues to dance and choreograph modern, jazz and contemporary works and is a member of the Pilates Method Alliance. During workouts, Melissa keeps her clients moving while explaining Pilates principles and offering corrections about technique and reminders about breathing. The workouts are deep and intense, but her attitude is always lighthearted. The intention is always to make the tough work of changing your body shape and posture not only productive but fun.

This workshop is designed and structured to encourage you to embrace your identity as a choreographer....focusing on using deep imagination, revisiting spontaneity and stretching yourself beyond the ordinary.  In this workshop, exercises are formatted to help you find the total make up of who you are as a person and who you are as a dancer...keeping them both fully visible and create movement from that. The goal is to discover your own style of movement, your own model, your own type. We will journey through improvisational work, writing, diverse music styles, clothing, space, lights, and imposed unique situations - using your years of training, well-founded technique and your body as a vehicle. The idea is to help you positively create your own language through movement, honor what speaks to you, find your point of view, make an image.... turn it inside out, and create an original "works in progress" solo piece.
