The Showcase Series

:pushing progress is proud to announce the 2013 Showcase Series!  

Over the past six years, :pushing progress has provided integrated dance education through performances, annual intensives, in studio workshops, one day workshops and the growing Contemporary Training Program. To compliment these educational programs, the Showcase Series celebrates artists in the metropolitan dance community and helps foster the work of the many talented artists both established and up-and-coming. By sharing the unique work of an eclectic group of artists, these performances celebrate raw creation and diversity in dance, and provide choreographers with a venue to share new movement and ideas at various stages of the process.

Past performances included choreographers such as Sidra Bell, Amanda Selwyn, Mark Stuart Dance Theater, Slam, Jason Parsons, Loni Landon, BODYART, Lauren Adams, Dana Foglia, The Next Stage Project, and :pushing progress director Calen J. Kurka.  Artists are picked both by invitation and through application submissions. 

The 2013 Showcase Series will be held at the Salvatore Capezio Theater at Peridance Capezio Center on Saturday May 18th and Sunday May 19th.

Evolving from past showcases, the 2013 Showcase Series aims to encompass :pushing progress’s overall vision by uniting dance education with performance in one singular event. The showcase event will join works presented by talented artists and choreographers with a week of instruction and education through evening workshop classes offered by donation the week leading up to the show. By providing a collaborative event that gives the many talented teachers and choreographers in the New York dance community a cohesive venue to share their knowledge and art form, the 2013 Showcase Series makes both dance education and performance widely accessible to the New York community at large.

Guests are invited to join the company directors and the evenings choreographers for a pre-show reception, during which attendees are welcome to discuss and collaborate experiences in the name of dance education.

• Choreographers will present in one of the two shows, with the possibility of both.
