Overview
The :pushing progress 2010 Summer Intensive is a program designed for dedicated individuals with a passion for their artistry and a hunger to continue a strong development of self. Whether striving for a professional career, or looking to be inspired and guided in the right direction for their current goals in dance, The Summer Intensive is designed to challenge each individual to explore their own artistry as well as their technique and understanding of the human body. It is a week long program of intense training dedicated to the discipline and art form of Dance. It is recommended for the int/adv dancer to the pre-professional/professional level dancer.
With a master faculty of New York choreographers and instructors as well as other industry professionals, dancers will be totaling over 65 hours of dancing over 7 days. This will also include a trip to see a Broadway Show/Dance Show, the potential for private and semi-private instruction, choreography workshops, and a videotaped Sunday evening Theater/Studio Showcase student performance also to include the faculty of :pushing progress.
We are also proud to implement the Mentor Program and our Pre-Professional Track. Both are designed for the mature dancer looking to bridge the gap between knowledge in training and it’s application in performance through personal approach and individual attention.
August 8th - 14th, Manhattan, NY
Dancers must be age 13 as of August 08th 2010 to register.
The Workshop
Workshop classes include: Ballet, Jazz technique, Contemporary Jazz/Lyrical, Tap, Modern, Hip Hop, Body Alignment, Core Training, Anatomy, Music Composition/Analysis and Improvisation/Artistic exploration.
All classes are geared towards building technique/body awareness, and exercising the individuality and artistry of each student while challenging growth in the mindset of the individual for a stronger sense of self, appreciation and approach.
The Choreography Sessions
Choreography sessions will occur in the evenings after workshop classes. These sessions allow the students the chance to work in a rehearsal setting with New York choreographers/instructors. This allows the choreographers to discipline the dancers in what might be asked of them, or how they may need to conduct themselves artistically within a professional rehearsal setting.
Dancers will be chosen for pieces by the individual choreographer during the placement audition at the weeks start. Every dancer will audition and be placed in a piece. These works of choreography are to be performed at the end of the week on stage in the theater performance.
Broadway Musical
One evening of the Intensive will be dedicated to a New York excursion, students and faculty, for a Broadway Musical. Parents, however, are encouraged to participate, and must indicate their desire to do so on the registration form attached. The additional cost for each individual wishing to accompany their child is $65.00.
Privates and Semi-Privates
Privates and Semi-Privates will be offered, for an additional cost, one afternoon of the workshop (but not excluding other available days/times). Instructors for privates and semi-privates include all our Master Faculty, :pushing progress workshop faculty, and the company members of :pushing progress.
All pricing is at the discretion of the individual instructor.
The Theater Performance Showcase
The Theater Performance Showcase is to be held the final evening of the Intensive. It will showcase not only the pieces learned by the students in their Choreography Sessions, their work learned in class, and some student improvisation.
A DVD of the Showcase will be made, as well as highlights throughout the week, and will be mailed out to the students after the workshop.
Chaperones
We have student chaperones over the age of 18 for any students needing one over the course of the week. If your child should require a chaperone, or if you would like further information about our chaperone system, please contact us at workshop@pushingprogress.com.
